Many institutions run matching-gift and participation challenges during giving days, and those challenges are often backed by a generous sponsor. Until now, there was no way to formally record that sponsor's gift or show their name on the challenge card. Admins had to track it offline, and reporting couldn't distinguish sponsor dollars from regular gifts.
With
Sponsored Matching Gifts
, you now have an
option
to tie a sponsor's gift directly to a matching-gift or participation challenge -- right from the admin dashboard. The sponsor gets credited on the challenge card, their gift flows into reporting correctly, and the thermometer stays accurate throughout.

What's New
A new Sponsored Challenges tab
on every giving page shows all your challenges and their sponsor status at a glance. Each challenge is labeled "Sponsor credited" or "No sponsor credited" so you know exactly where things stand.

Sponsor name on the challenge card.
As soon as you tie a sponsor's gift to a challenge, their name appears on the donor-facing challenge card as "Sponsored by [Name]" -- unless the gift is marked anonymous. This happens immediately on tie, no need to wait for the challenge goal to be met.

Gift drawer shows sponsor status.
When you open a gift in the Gifts tab, a new CHALLENGE section appears. Gifts that are marked as sponsor gifts show a "Sponsor's gift" badge, and the section indicates whether the gift has been tied to a challenge yet.
Credit a sponsor flow.
For challenges that don't have a sponsor yet, a "Credit a sponsor" button lets you pick from eligible gifts or add a new one. The system automatically matches gifts by amount and currency, and enforces a strict 1:1 relationship -- one gift per challenge.
Why This Matters
  • Transparency for donors.
Sponsors get visible credit on the challenge card, which can encourage more donors to participate in the challenge.
  • Accurate reporting.
Sponsor gifts are now tracked separately in reporting as "Recorded sponsor's gifts" vs. "Unrecorded sponsor's gifts" -- no more lumping them in with regular donations or tracking them in a spreadsheet.
  • Donation information integrity.
A sponsor's gift only appears on the donor-facing leaderboards, and ticker after the challenge goal is fully met. This prevents inflating progress before donors have actually hit the target.
Good to Know
  • Here if you need it
    Adding a sponsor’s gift is
    optional
. Your challenge will continue to work exactly as it does today without one.
  • Sponsor name vs. sponsor gift release are two separate moments.
The sponsor's name shows on the challenge card immediately when the gift is tied (unless anonymous). The sponsor's gift amount is released to the leaderboards, and ticker only after the challenge goal is fully met.
  • 1:1 tie between gift and challenge.
Each sponsor gift can be tied to exactly one challenge, and each challenge can have exactly one sponsor gift. The gift amount must match the challenge prize exactly, in the same currency.
  • If a challenge ends without meeting its goal,
the remaining sponsor gift amount is automatically added to the thermometer when the giving page ends, so no dollars are left unaccounted for.
  • Reports now break down sponsor gifts.
The Reports tab shows a clear A / B / C breakdown: Direct gifts, Recorded sponsor's gifts (with a badge showing how much hasn't hit the thermometer yet), and Unrecorded sponsor's gifts.
  • Works with both challenge types.
Sponsor gifts can be tied to matching-gift challenges (which multiply donor impact) and participation challenges (which unlock a prize when a goal is reached).
