Supporting Subscription Groups for emails
complete
Siddarth Reddy
Today, when a user clicks on Unsubscribe, they get three options.
- Unsubscribe specific email groups
- Unsubscribe from one-to-one communication
- Unsubscribe all communication.
But the user doesn't have a choice to unsubscribe from a subscription group, and the assumption that an email group is a subscription group is not always true.

This is a feature we are also interested in seeing. Is there an update on this?

Email Group Membership

I have someone who has replied to an email in such a way that we, internally, wish to remove him from future emails we have scheduled for the Day of Giving next week. He has not requested to not be emailed or removed from anything. We, essentially want to remove him manually from all Day of Giving email groups. However, there doesn't seem to be a way to search the email groups for his name, no way to see which groups he is a member of on his profile or anything else. So it appears, we'd have to go into each email group and search for him there. It would be nice if there was a better way to administrate this scenario.

Oh, Jennifer Boettger - how annoying! I can see how problematic something like that could be.

Yes, we agree! We would like to be able to edit the unsubscribe features to best suit our constituents needs

The ability to modify our unsubscribe options is very important to meet the needs of our constituents. We want to ensure that while they are unsubscribing from specific areas, we can contact them with other means of communication, such as mailers. The current language on the page is too broad, and it is necessary to add clearer language about what they are unsubscribing from and other areas in which they can engage with our institution. We appreciate the opportunity to edit the unsubscribe page soon.

Correct.
The issue has to do with there not being a way to allow constituents to "unsubscribe" from an entire category of email type/purpose. For example, an alum doesn't want to receive emails that are event invites or solicitations but still wants to hear from us with college news or reports.
The way Almabase is currently configured, at least what we are coming to understand is the way it is configured, is that the constituent "unsubscribes" from an email group which in some cases truly is a re-used group, but in some cases (many cases at our school) the email group is really just a segmented list for the purpose of that particular message. Meaning, each subsequent email they get made from a different segmented list they'll have to unsubscribe from as well, which could be frustrating for a constituent.
In iModules, when we built emails, we could assign that message a "Category" (e.g. College News, Events, Solicitation, Athletics, Parent Information, etc). And when a constituent unsubscribed, they would unsubscribe from a list of Mail Categories (not the email list used to send the message). Using the previous Alum example, he could uncheck Event Invitations and Solicitations, but leave College News checked. Then that would manage all his future communications. He would be suppressed from receiving any email of the Events or Solicitation category regardless if he was in the list audience.
Constant Contact manages its mail the same way. Clients get to define a look-up table of Mail Categories and can label/assign their email to a category. Then unsubscribes are managed from THOSE, not the distribution list.
Note: The second image is the back end of iModules, not the version the constituent saw. I cannot share a screenshot of that because we have moved our URL to Almabase. But it gives you an idea. (Our school blew up to way too many categories, only a handful of those shown were still active - you are seeing all of them because it is my admin view)

Jennifer Boettger: Thank you for the information. We are discussing this feature internally and will have an update soon on this.
